A book your friend loves

  1. Love this reading challenge! One of my New Year's resolutions is to read for pleasure more frequently. I just finished the book Tribe by Sebastian Junger. Tribe was recommended to me by my friend Tara. In his book, Junger explores the human need of belonging. He suggests that having a well defined purpose within a group increases a person's sense of connection. While reading this book, I couldn't help but wonder about the implications of technology (texting, social media) as a means of communicating and interaction. Is technology causing us to lose our sense of personal connection?

  2. I read the book The School For Good and Evil by Soman Chainani. It is about two girls that go to a school to learn how to make a fairy tale and they are best friends but they think that they are in the wrong school so they try to switch. They learn a valuable lesson about friendship, They realize that they need each other.

  3. I read the book "Like a River" by Kathy Wiechman. The book is set in northern USA during the Civil Wartime. It is a book loved by Addey, and now me. It starts with a boy who wants to be treated like a man. There is a family tragedy, and the boy (Leander) has to do more chores. He decides to go to war to be treated like a man. During the war, the main character switches to a girl pretending to be a man. She has to go through some very tough times (including prison) and make it to a safe home. This book is very intense, exciting, and emotional. I highly recommend it.

  4. I read the book Fablehaven. It's loved by Cecelia and now I love it too. It's about two siblings who go to their grandparents house while their parents are on vacation. It's a really good book and you should read it.
