I read the book "Like a River" by Kathy Wiechman. The book is set in northern USA during the Civil Wartime. It is a book loved by Addey, and now me. It starts with a boy who wants to be treated like a man. There is a family tragedy, and the boy (Leander) has to do more chores. He decides to go to war to be treated like a man. During the war, the main character switches to a girl pretending to be a man. She has to go through some very tough times (including prison) and make it to a safe home. This book is very intense, exciting, and emotional. I highly recommend it.
